India Reduced Oil Imports from Russia by 40% in January 2026

The supply of Russian oil has dropped to its lowest level since June 2022, standing at 859,000 barrels per day (3.68 million tons), according to a report by the international pricing agency Argus, reviewed by RBC.

The decrease in supplies to India is partially attributed to increased pressure from the United States. New Delhi is looking to reduce its oil imports from Russia in order to establish a trade agreement with Washington. Concurrently, India is diversifying its raw material purchases and has resumed importing Venezuelan oil after an extended hiatus.

How the export of Russian oil to India is adapting to U.S. threats is explored in an RBC article.
