Urals Oil Became More Expensive than ESPO in April: Causes and Consequences

The export price of Russian Urals crude oil at Russian ports in April 2026 significantly exceeded the price of ESPO oil, according to data from Argus, the Price Index Center (PIC), and consulting firm NEFT Research. As indicated by the PIC, during the week of April 13-19, Urals was priced at $95.4/barrel on a FOB basis in Primorsk (Leningrad region) and $94.4/barrel in FOB Novorossiysk, while ESPO was priced at $89.6/barrel on a FOB basis in Kozmino (Primorsky Krai). This means that the Urals grade was more expensive by $4.8 to $5.8/barrel.

According to NEFT Research, the average price of Urals between April 13 and 17 was $91.4/barrel in Novorossiysk and $93.2/barrel in Primorsk, whereas ESPO oil was $91.1/barrel. The previous week, Urals was more expensive by $12 to $14/barrel; however, according to the PIC, the difference was $15 to $16/barrel.
